Keeping your valuables safe during your move

Once you’ve made the decision to move to a new house, it can be the start of a very exciting time. A new start can bring a lot of joy into your life, but it also involves a lot stress. It might be a good idea to take photographs of your possessions to prove that they were present on the day of the move, and in case they get misplaced in one way or another.

After you’ve established the state of your belongings, now is the time to think about handling them throughout the move. There are a couple of viable options, many of which involve simply storing the valuables in a safe place and later transporting them to your new home. This is the safest option if you don’t require immediate access to your valuables. You can use a safety deposit box at a bank for a small fee. This will guarantee that your expensive belongings will be completely secure as you go about your move. If you don’t want to spend any money keeping them safe, you can ask a trusted family member or friend to hold on to them for the time being.

A third option is to utilise a hiding place – you could label a box with your valuables as Christmas decorations or something equally mundane to throw off anyone that could potentially want to steal them. If you do decide to take your belongings with you on the move (for example, if you need to have them at hand), you can fill out a declaration form that will inform your moving company that they must pay special attention to specific items in order not to damage them. You should also pay close attention to how you pack your things. Invest in the proper quality supplies and label your boxes accordingly. And of course, don’t forget to be properly insured – you never know what might happen, so it’s always best to be prepared!
